Letter: Publish names of people owing unpaid parking fines

The same should be done for those owing property taxes

The City of Greater Sudbury is writing off almost $285,000 in unpaid parking fines. File photo.

Editor's note: The following letter is in response to a recent Sudbury.com article about the city writing off unpaid parking fines.

Before this write-off took effect, the list of names of those owing the unpaid fines should have been made public.

I am certain that we would not be greatly surprised by several of the names listed there.

The very same can be said about the list of names of those owing the city huge sums in unpaid property taxes.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was always told that the delinquency period for property taxes was three years. Thereafter, you lose the property.

All that income lost is always kept well hidden until, "Oh, the money is irretrievable, so let's just write it off."

Really, I am certainly not fooled by any of it.
