Letter: Racism, sexism and homophobia can't be tolerated in politics

Voter turned off by NDP candidate Paul Miller's recent remarks

I’m writing to express my disappointment in Andrea Horwath and her party for refusing to condemn racist and homophobic remarks from NDP candidate Paul Miller.
CBC reported that Mr. Miller is under investigation for making “routine racist, sexist and homophobic comments.”

Apparently the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, Ontario’s Chief Electoral Officer and the Professional Employees Union are all investigating multiple allegations. Yet, the NDP is keeping him on the ballot.

I, for one, want more integrity from a party with progressive social values — the kind of integrity we got from Jack Layton.

Sadly, we’ve come to expect intolerant comments from Doug Ford, Andrew Lawton, and other Conservative candidates. Not that it makes them any more acceptable.

It’s 2018. Regardless of the political party, there is no place for intolerance and bigotry in our political discourse. It’s up to each and every one of us to stand up and say this is NOT okay.
