Letter: Right to die is a slippery slope

It won’t be long before we’ll be gently encouraged with words like, 'it is your duty to die'

Governments and medical regulating bodies must enact legal protection for all medical personnel, so that they are not bullied or forced to act contrary to their beliefs in regards to assisting with suicide.

They should not have to participate in ending the life of anyone or fear losing their licence to practice.

Already since its legalization, assisted suicide is being normalized. Human life is becoming a commodity. What is your life worth to the rest of us? Do we feel you are contributing enough to keep you alive? If death can be hastened, why tolerate any inconveniences like disease or disability?

It’s a slippery slope. First, we convince ourselves that we have “the right to die.” It won’t be long before we’ll be gently encouraged with words like, “You ought to die,” to outright being told, “It is your duty to die.”
