Much has changed since March 11, 2020 when the World Health Organization declared a world-wide pandemic due to COVID-19.
But what hasn’t changed is our steadfast commitment to resident and patient safety and personal-centred care at each of our facilities: St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre South Bay Road Site and Clarion Hotel Site, St. Joseph’s Villa, Villa St. Gabriel Villa and St. Joseph’s Health Centre.
As CEO and administrator, I am deeply proud of how everyone across our four organizations has responded to this pandemic and how we have worked closely with our public health unit, health system partners and government partners to keep our residents and patients safe in our organization and in the Sudbury and district area more broadly.
As of Sept. 15, 2020, there have been 137,000 confirmed cases in Canada; and 100 confirmed cases in Sudbury (we are now at 102). We have had two deaths.
These are disturbing statistics given the fact they are now on the rise again — locally, nationally and world-wide.
I am writing to request that now is not time to take our foot off the pedal. As a community, we need to remain steadfast, to continue to adhere to COVID-19 protocols and to remain diligent to flattening the curve long enough to allow the scientific community to develop a vaccine.
For the safety of our residents, patients, staff, volunteers and community as a whole, I thank you for your efforts to date and I urge you to please continue to practise physical distancing (six feet), wash your hands and wear a mask in public.
On behalf of our residents, patients, staff and physicians – thank you. God bless. Please stay safe and healthy.
