Letter: To the person who damaged my SUV at Home Depot and fled the scene …

Reader hopes culprit — or anyone who knows the culprit — will come forward

To the fellow driving the grey pick-up truck with long lumber protruding from the back who sped away after seriously damaging my SUV in the Home Depot parking lot on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at about 11:20 a.m., here is an update.

A nice man named Gilbert witnessed you turning next to my parked, unoccupied vehicle with the protruding lumber in your truck box striking the right rear of my vehicle. As you noticed your carelessness, you immediately raced off before Gilbert and others could identify you.

Gilbert immediately called the police with what he saw and gave them a description of you and your vehicle. I arrived a few minutes later and also called the police. The ends of your lumber may have some Kia titanium-coloured paint on them from my vehicle.

I just wanted you to know that the lowest damage estimate so far is $2,155, with other estimates higher and there's the usual $1,000 deductible. As an 80+-year-old pensioner, I do have better things to spend my pension cheques on than paying for your misdeeds.

If the police don't catch up to you soon, I do hope that you don't have too much trouble sleeping at night or looking at yourself in the mirror in the morning.

Perhaps someone will know who you are and will do the right thing.
