Sewage is not a pretty topic, but it's an important one in
my area of Sudbury right now.
The rock tunnel that is to service the South End is
scheduled to be completed in November 2008. In the meantime,
raw sewage is being dumped into Lake Nepahwin when the existing
sewage system can't handle the load.
Many of us are concerned about health issues for
people living on the lake and for those who swim at Nepahwin
beach in the summer.
We were upset when we heard the city may give Dalron
Construction permission to build hundreds of new residential
units in an area that will use the same failing infrastructure.
We have been told construction can start immediately if
council accepts their proposal. They don't have to take
potential environmental damage into consideration, nor do they
have to concern themselves with the possibility of a health
catastrophe in the existing population.
The entire South End may be affected by the sewage
problem. And all of Sudbury should be concerned about a council
that would even consider allowing something so detrimental to
the health and safety of the community.
