Sudbury proves that this city is a caring community in which to live.
The citizens of Kashechewan are faced once again with being
homeless related to the natural disaster of spring
flooding.  And while the task of being relocated to
temporary shelter in another community is not ideal, it may be
comforting for them to know that there are willing communities
to which they can turn for support and assistance.
My Sudbury is a community that rallies together to provide
support for the most vulnerable populations. This was also
demonstrated by city council's decision to provide interim
funding from January to June 2006 to agencies such as
l'Association des jeunes de la rue, Elgin Street Mission,
Salvation Army and the Sudbury Action Centre For Youth so that
the needs of the homeless could be met.
Sudbury's response is not one of "we have enough of our own
problems to solve." The humanitarian aspect of this city puts
Sudbury in a class of its own.
