After being told I needed knee surgery very
soon, my doctor sent me to Toronto to see a specialist rather
than have me wait two to three years to have it done in
Sudbury. I figured I would get a travel grant. Wrong! I
received excuses. They could not read the doctor's writing.
They questioned why I could not wait to have it done in
Sudbury.
My doctor kept informing them I had to have
it done soon, but to no avail.
I have made three trips to the Travel Grant
Office and two trips to MPP Rick Bartolucci's office (where
they told me they had done all they could for me).
Finally I received a cheque for $43 with the
explanation I could have had the operation done in North Bay. I
asked how I could have known this. I was told that it was up to
me to find out these things.
I am a senior on a fixed income and I cannot
understand why I have to beg for this travel grant. I would
have liked to have this done in Sudbury, but I could not. It
seems to me, people are being punished for living up here. I
can not help it if I could not find a specialist. So any advice
will be appreciated.
