My 82 -year -old mother has lived quietly and
happily in the Pinecrest Subdivison for more than 30 years. She
planted a garden this summer even though she moves much slower
than before.
She got some cucumber plants from a local
nursery, and we were quite surprised when long vines with huge
leaves and yellow flowers started creeping across the back
lawn. Somehow some pumpkin plants had gotten mixed in with the
cukes and she happily harvested three pumpkins of various
sizes.
As my father's 80th birthday was approaching,
my mother made a small "harvest" display by her front door with
the pumpkins and mums. Unfortunately when she got up on Oct.
13, she noticed with dismay her two smaller pumpkins were
stolen.
Parents who know where your children were the
night of Oct.12th will sympathize with my mother. They were
probably helping their kids with homework or driving them to a
sports practice. But I guess those who don't fall into this
league know who they are, and I hope they realize how upset
their child made my mother by this stupid act of petty
thievery.
