Every year at this time people are getting ready to file their income taxes. If you are like me, (you are) tired of having to repay every year. I'm on a disability pension, and if it weren't for the spousal support receive each month, I would not be able to afford much of anything.
Spousal support is something that is owed to a person. After
being married for 25 years, I am not ashamed to collect this
money. However, I do not like the fact our government forces
the recipient to declare this money as income, and the payer is
able to claim it as an expense. In the past, the government has
made a decision not to tax child support. Why can't our
government do the same for spousal support. I'm sure many of
you out there are in a similar situation as I am and would
agree it would only be fair that this type of income should not
be taxed at all. It's about time we start voicing our opinions
more and make sure we are heard.
