In early January of this year, The Kiwanis Club of Sudbury
was informed Warna Timlock, a staunch supporter of the arts in
Sudbury and a long-standing volunteer with the Kiwanis Music
& Dance Festivals, was staying in Hamilton to care for her
daughter Kimberley, who was dying. Thanks to the wonderful
article written by managing editor Vicki Gilhula, and the
support from Northern Life, many people were made aware
of what was happening to Warna and Kimberley. The Kiwanis
Dance Festival received a total of $3,795, which was forwarded
directly to Warna in Hamilton. This community effort allowed
Kimberley to remain in her apartment longer with her mom,
relieved Warna of any financial stresses she had back home, and
assisted in covering hospital incidentals and Kimberley's
memorial service and last farewell. Kimberley passed away
peacefully with her mom, Warna and her brother, Jack, at her
side on Sunday March 5. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to
Warna and Jack as they mourn the passing of Kimberley. But we
also give thanks for having known Kimberley, for her love of
dance and for the dance legacy she has left us, which spans
across generations and continents.
