What's with the sidewalks? - Mitchell MacFarlane

Taxpayers in Sudbury are paying more taxes and receiving less in return. That is what most Sudburians old and young are telling me. Water, sewer and gas are just some of the things people are complaining about.

One big thing that never seems to change is the state of the sidewalks. The streets are foremost, they have to be cleaned before the sidewalks. But what I cannot understand is why does it take so long after a snowfall for the sidewalks to be cleaned.

I bet if you go to where the mayor lives and all the councillors, the streets and sidewalks are nicely cleaned.

I would really like to know why it takes the city workers so long to clean the sidewalks on Notre Dame hill. It is one of the most walked streets in Sudbury. We have elderly walking, people in electric wheelchairs, as well as elderly with walkers. It's a disgrace.

We walkers have to walk on the street to try to avoid traffic. All I'm asking is please give us what we pay for, and stop trying to put everything under the rugs. The people of Sudbury are watching every step the mayor and councillors make.

Keep that in mind for the next municipal election.
