I recently had the opportunity to attend my first meeting as a member of the Ontario Mineral Industry Cluster Council (OMICC), a new group aimed at cementing Ontario's reputation as a leader in the mining industry.

I could not agree more with Bob Keir's response to my See Sudbury column, recently published in this paper, when he stated we need our own citizens to speak out as to why others might want to visit our city.

The World Health Organization has recognized obesity as a global epidemic. There are more than one billion overweight adults worldwide and childhood obesity levels are at an all-time high in Canada.

In regard to our much criticized health system, contrary to all negative conversation, I wish to express my most sincere thanks to all who assisted me in March. The minute I was admitted to the Emergency Department I was well taken care of.

The relentless pork-barreling of our city wards has got to stop. The time has come for us to embrace an idea that will actually make politicians accountable to the entire city, and less able to make deals with each other out of the public eye.
