$600 K from FedNor for cultural sector

FedNor is giving $600,000 to Cultural Industries Ontario North (CION) to enhance Northern Ontario’s cultural, music and film industries.

Cultural Industries Ontario North is a not-for-profit organization focused on creating economic opportunities in Northern Ontario through the region’s cultural, music and film industries.

CION is managed by an 11-member board of directors that includes business leaders with extensive experience and expertise in media and communications.

This targeted investment will also enable CION to implement the organization’s strategic plan.

“Our Government is proud to support efforts to develop and grow Northern Ontario’s creative economy,” said FedNor Minister Greg Rickford, in a press release.

“The North has garnered a reputation as a high-quality destination for arts, culture and film production and this investment will encourage effective cooperation across various sectors to create business opportunities and jobs."

“The music and film and cultural industries are quickly becoming important economic drivers in the region and I am very pleased that FedNor is investing to ensure their continued development and growth.”

David Anselmo, CEO of Hideaway Pictures, said the investment is very important to the film and television industry in the north.

“CION's strategic plan will not only help promote this wonderful, cost effective film destination, but will help attract new investors to the region which is vital to the growth of this burgeoning industry in Northern Ontario,” he said, in an email.
