It wasn't a Sudbury Saturday Night, but legendary Canadian singer-songwriter Stompin' Tom Connors still packed them into the Sudbury Arena Thursday night as he returned to town for the first time in several years.

A crowd estimated to be in the neighbourhood of 2,500 attended the concert at the Sudbury Arena to listen to classic tunes by the legend from Skinner's Pond, P.E.I.

Connors didn't disappoint as he churned out all his big hits and had the audience in stitches in between songs with his friendly banter and jokes.

He played all the classics, including Ketchup Loves Potatoes, The Hockey Song, Bud the Spud and, Big Joe Muffuraw and, of course, Sudbury Saturday Night, arguably the biggest hit in his long and storied career.

Stompin' Tom will continue his Northern Ontario tour as he plays a headline gig this weekend in North Bay at the North Bay Heritage Festival.
