Described as an “acclaimed roots balladeer with a true gift for songwriting and a rare personal warmth,” Edmonton’s Scott Cook will perform at a house concert in Sudbury Oct. 4.
His six studio albums have earned him two Canadian Folk Music Award nominations and one of his songs won the Folk and Acoustic category in the 2013 UK Songwriting Contest.
The UK magazine Maverick Country named him "one of Canada's most inspiring and imaginative storytellers.”
Cook is one of the hardest-working troubadours on the road today, said a press release.
Since 2007 he has averaged over 150 shows and a dozen festivals a year, touring across Canada, the USA, Europe, Asia, Australia and elsewhere. All the hard miles notwithstanding, he still believes that songs can change your life, and your life can change the world.
Cook has distilled stories collected over the years into straight-talking, keenly observant lyrics.
Road-worn, painfully honest, and deeply human, his tunes weave threads of folk, roots, blues, soul and country over intricate fingerstyle guitar and clawhammer banjo arrangements.
His Sudbury show, which starts at 7:30 p.m., will be a house concert in a private home where everyone is welcome.
