Artists on Elgin hosts an exhibition by Joan Chivot called Inspirations from the Boardwalk during the month of August.
An opening exhibit takes place from 1-4 p.m. Aug. 4.
The exhibition's title comes from Chivot’s daily walks along the Boardwalk.
This is where I chase away my night dreams, plan my day, get exercise, commune with nature in all seasons, make new friends,” she said. “It is only natural that the views from the boardwalk have been an ongoing inspiration in many of my paintings from the beginning.”
Chivot’s paintings depict scenes familiar to Northern Ontario, including colourful sunsets and skies reflected into the lakes below.
“What I especially enjoy in painting is mixing colour, so the often stunning skies and reflections are a great resource along with other scenes from Bell Park,” said Chivot.
Chivot’s artistic endeavours began in 2002 following an early retirement from education. She is primarily a self-taught artist working in oil, acrylic, watercolour, and pastels.
Chivot has travelled to more than 60 countries and has been influenced by her travels, as well as the surrounding local northern landscape.
Artists on Elgin is located at 168 Elgin Street, and is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
