Arts community bids farewell to former STC director

John McHenry left his position as artistic director of Sudbury Theatre Centre back in March

Friends of former Sudbury Theatre Centre artistic director John McHenry gathered at the Northbury Hotel recently to bid him farewell.

McHenry parted ways with Sudbury Theatre Centre earlier this year. The theatre company chose not to renew his contract as STC and YES Theatre underwent merger talks.

He is now the marketing and communications co-ordinator for Niagara Symphony.

The surprise event for McHenry was organized by Judi Straughan, a Sudbury Arts Council member and long-time STC supporter. McHenry had been a member of Sudbury Arts Council for several years.

He was also presented with a certificate of appreciation from Sudbury MPP Jamie West’s office.

“John will be remembered for his unwavering support for STC and the Sudbury Arts Community, and many will recall his productions,” said an email about the event from John Lindsay, who thinks one of the most fun productions was “The Ballad of Stompin’ Tom.”
