The band Empty House triumphed in the band/ensemble category at Meltdown 2024.

Northern Ontario musicians should mark their calendars, as the Meltdown Competition 2025 arrives at Knox Hall on March 23.

This open, juried audition and showcase event provides a unique opportunity for local talent to shine.

The event seeks the best in Solo/Duo and Band/Ensemble categories, with prizes up for grabs, including a paid performance spot at the renowned Northern Lights Festival Boréal 2025, and one full day of free studio time at Deadpan Studios, offering artists an opportunity to enhance their music.

Eligibility and judging criteria:

● At least one core member of each group must reside in Northern Ontario to be eligible.

● Participants will be judged on their musicianship, composition, performance, stage presence, and how well they align with the festival's vibe.

● It’s important to note that applying does not guarantee participation; only selected applicants will be contacted for competition spots.

Application process:

Applications can be submitted through the event’s form. The deadline is Feb. 23, but early applications are encouraged as they will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Previous winners cannot compete with the same project, but new projects are welcome.

Covers policy:

Cover songs are allowed if they present a traditional, unique twist, or are combined with original material. The festival does not feature straightforward cover bands or tribute acts.
