Sudbury Theatre Centre and YES Theatre invite all budding playwrights in Grade 9 to 12 to take part in the new playwriting series, “From Page to Stage.”

Running over 10 Monday evenings, successful applicants will work in a small group setting with instructor Kelsey Rutledge to create a collaborative play.

Successful applicants will meet on Monday evenings from October 17 to January 16 (excluding the winter break). An evening celebration and staged reading of the play will be held in Spring 2023, so that parents and family can hear the students’ work come to life.

To apply for entrance into the program, students are to write a scene between two characters discussing an upcoming class field trip. The scene must be no longer than three pages and must contain at least one monologue.

Things to think about:

  • What is the relationship between the two characters?
  • How do the characters feel about the field trip?
  • Where are they headed to on this field trip?
  • What do they think/hope will happen?
  • Show vulnerability, write boldly and be creative!

Submit your scene by Friday, Sept. 30 to Ralph McIntosh, Education Director, at [email protected]. There is no cost to apply for this program.

Successful applicants will be notified the week of October 10. The participation fee for this ten-week program is $250 (taxes included) – students already registered in another STC program pay only $230.

The theatre companies say their education programs contribute to each student’s emotional, intellectual and social development. Participation also helps to develop their self-confidence and problem-solving skills.
