Author's 2nd book tackles issue of suicide

These experiences are the inspiration behind the 55-year-old Sudbury resident's second book, “On Rock Bottom and Know Where to Turn.”

In the book, Jones speaks about his relationship with his brother and his own mental illness.

He advises those considering suicide to find people they can trust to talk to about their problems and to follow their doctors' advice. The alternative is hurting everyone you love, Jones said.

“The ones you leave behind cry out to the moon and the stars,” he said, in the book.

“Why did you do that? I loved you with all of my heart, and you tore it apart. The shock, the tears, the anger.

“Let me tell you about the anger. Dennis left behind two very young boys. These boys, on hearing the news about their father, hid under their beds, crying and trembling ..."

The retired heavy equipment mechanic and father of two adult daughters released his first book, “The Book of Al,” in 2013, in which he shares his life story.

Jones said he's in the process of doing research for a third book, in which he plans to write about how vitamins and minerals may be useful in controlling mental illness.

“On Rock Bottom and Know Where to Turn” and “The Book of Al,” both published by Trafford Publishing, cost $11 and $12, respectively.
