Canadian award-winning singer-songwriter Tara Shannon performs in Greater Sudbury Feb. 29 as part of a tour across Ontario raising funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Proceeds from ticket sales from “The 'Big' Tour” benefit each of the 11 local Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies and about 1,500 “littles” province-wide.
"I got to know Big Brothers Big Sisters when I came on board as the Ambassador for the Morguard Be You Girl Campaign,” said Shannon.
“I loved everything about their programs and mission statement from the onset and couldn't believe they had been around for over 100 years which says so much.
“Mentoring is a core function of the work I do as a business consultant, label owner and mother of seven so it's a natural fit for me and the power of mentoring cannot be overstated - it is truly life changing.”
Shannon will be joined on tour by the band Jessica Pearson and The Eastwind, a group she's had the chance to mentor.
There will also be a local artist or band from each city that will open the concert.
“Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ontario are grateful to Tara Shannon for choosing to put her talents to work in support of children and youth through The 'Big' Tour,” said Susan Ingram, executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ottawa.
“The proceeds from each and every show will be put to work right away in the 11 participating communities — helping to ignite power and potential in youth across Ontario.
“Tara has been a long-time supporter of our work and knows the important role mentorship plays in helping the next generation.”
The Sudbury concert takes place Saturday, Feb. 29 at Sudbury Secondary School. Doors open at 7 p.m., with the concert starting at 8 p.m.
