River & Sky Music/Camping Festival presents two of its alumni — Bry Webb and Bird City — at an evening of music at Fromagerie Elgin this Friday starting at 8 p.m.
Webb is the lead singer of The Constantines. He has released three LPs under his own name, which are sparse, moody, and gentle things, compared to the bombast of the Constantines.
He will be joined by lap steel guitarist Rich Burnett and Ben Grossman on Hurdy Gurdy and percussion for this loving, if subtly psychedelic, folk music performance.
An R&S festival favourite, he has played twice on its main stage and has also mentored Northern musicians through the festival’s Regional Musician Development Campout.
Bird City is the work of Jenny Mitchell (aka Jenny Omnichord), a DIY legend across Canada. With a debut LP on the way this fall, Bird City introduces the world to the more plaintive, heart-on-sleeve side of Mitchell’s song craft.
She's an inventive and singular voice in new song. She has captivated R&S audiences around its campfire and coffeehouse stages at two of R&S’s festivals.
A $10 cover will be charged at the door.
