Science North will host a family-friendly celebration in honour of Canada's 150th birthday on July 1.

Enjoy a full day and evening of live entertainment, awesome science, family activities and games including a spectacular fireworks display.

Visit the grounds at Science North and enjoy great food, great fun, and great festivities throughout the day. This alcohol-free family day is free for all ages.

Free family entertainment on the main stage kicks off at 12 p.m. with an opening ceremony and a performance of the “O’Canada”.

“Canada Day at Science North has become a long-standing tradition where families and friends gather to participate in the largest community event on Canada Day in Sudbury,” said Guy Labine, Science North CEO.

“And this year’s event promises to be one of the best yet as we celebrate a special year in Canada’s history, all of which of course wouldn’t be possible without our committed partners and supporters.”

This year, Science North and KiSS 105.3 are teaming up to once again bring you the KiSS 105.3 Canada Day Band Jam. See the semi-finalists from the preliminary round performing on the main stage at Science North at 3:00 pm. The final round, with the top three performers, is scheduled for 7:00 pm. Come out and cheer on your favourite Sudbury bands.

“Vale is very proud to present Science North’s Canada Day Family Celebration,” said Stuart Harshaw, Vice President of Vale’s Ontario Operations. “It’s a great opportunity to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary with family and friends in the heart of our community.”

New this year, Science North is proud to present special experiences to celebrate our heritage with historical reenactments and Kanata 150, an original, cultural, theatrical and musical production which provides a glimpse of Canadian history.

“Café-musique Productions Rayside-Balfour is truly honoured to be part of our city’s iconic events. Bringing Canadian Stories through our writers, story tellers, musicians, and performers is what Café-musique is all about and we are delighted to be part of Canada’s 150 Celebration. See you there” said Gary Michalak, Executive Director.

Throughout the day, explore Science North’s new special exhibition 101 Inventions That Changed the World, an immensely captivating, unique experience guaranteed to fascinate, educate, entertain and inspire.

The Special Exhibits Hall will be open July 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information about 101 Inventions, visit sciencenorth.ca/101inventions. Don’t miss great entertainment featuring Ian Tamblyn and Stef Paquette and fill your day with great hands-on activities, games, crafts, and face painting, for visitors of all ages. The day also includes plenty of tasty Canada Day snacks to choose from, and much more.

Top off the evening with a spectacular fireworks display by David Whysall International Fireworks at approximately 10:15 p.m. The launch of fireworks is dependent on wind and weather and may be cancelled at any time before the show, right up until the last minute.
