Celebrity dancers ready to strut for Easter Seals

The 11th annual event is back June 17

Local celebrity dancers will hit the floor June 17 in the upper hall of the Caruso Club for the 11th annual Dancing with the Easter Seals Stars fundraiser.

Over its more than a decade of dancing, the event has raised more than $800,000 for Easter Seals.

“Money raised from this year's event will aid funding for essential mobility equipment, such as walkers, wheelchairs, porch lifts and ramps, as well as communication devices for families who require additional help and support in raising a child with a physical disability,” Lindsay Vautour, Easter Seals’ community engagement officer, told Sudbury.com. “It will also give children the opportunity to attend one of two fully accessible camps, Camp Merrywood and Camp Woodeden.”

This year’s Easter Seals ambassadors, Sierra Neville and Liam Martin, will also be on hand for the event.

“The Ambassador program empowers young people with physical disabilities to discover what makes them remarkable while fostering self-confidence and lifelong skills such as networking and public speaking,” Vautour said.

The celebrity dancers have been training with their professional partners for between two and three months for the event. Each pair performs two dances, with the top three repeating their favourite dance in the finals.

This year’s celebrity dancers are:

  • Michel Aubin (Sudbury MMA)
  • Dennis Legault (Apex Warrior)
  • Montana McCulloch (Abbott)
  • Dryden Ouimet (Apex Warrior)
  • Aaron Rehel (Sudbury Home Inspectors Ltd.)
  • Kelley Pileggi (Glencore)
  • Nicole Vizza (Cambrian College)

This year’s professional partners are:

  • Dennis Harasymchuk (Ballroom Dance Studios)
  • Lisa Lounsbury (New Day Wellness)
