Check this out: Heidi plays saxophone (well, kind of)

The Jazz Sudbury Festival is currently underway and will run until Sept. 13 with headliners like Alex Cuba, Steve Hill and Diana Panton. The five-day festival celebrates what many argue is the most cerebral of the musical arts.

The five-day festival celebrates what many argue is the most cerebral of the musical arts. Jazz might not get the attention it once did, but it remains a vibrant, passionate artform. If you've never been to a jazz show before, why not take some time this week to give it a shot? You might be pleasantly surprised.

NorthernLife.ca is celebrating jazz this week by getting our staff to do something unusual for your amusement. We've already sent reporter Matt Durnan up a wall to learn how to climb and sent our editor Mark Gentili into a wrestling ring to learn how to be an announcer.

We've already picked on associate content editor Heidi Ulrichsen when we asked local world-class beatboxer Emilie "Sparx" Carrey to teach her the ropes of beatboxing.

Heidi's more than a beatboxer though. She's also a former band geek who hasn't touched her saxophone in more than a decade.

So, to celebrate the Jazz Sudbury Festival, Heidi decided to brush up on her ol' saxophone skills with the help of No Strings Attached Community Band founder Sandra McMillan — for your amusement, of course.
