Chezza takes on opioid epidemic, MMIW in latest single ‘God Bless the North’

Sudbury-born rapper’s latest teases release of his upcoming project ‘70G’

He might live in Brampton now, but rapper Chezza (https://www.iceburghsociety.com/chezza) will always be a northern boy at heart, a message he touches on in his latest single, God Bless the North.

The single will be part of Chezza’s upcoming project, “70G”, which “tells his story of trying to be a hip hop artist while growing up in the unexpected Northern Ontario.”

Perhaps Northern Ontario isn’t satisfactorily represented in the GTA rap scene, but with God Bless the North, Chezza highlights two issues that, while not particular to the North, are very apparent in small and remote northern communities: the opioid and fentanyl epidemic, which is killing someone in Northern Ontario on a weekly basis, and the issue of missing and murdered Indigenous women.

With artwork by Iceburgh Society Entertainment, the image accompanying the single features praying hands over the maple leaf.

“This project will showcase his versatility from hip hop, R&B, and dancehall while also highlighting his newfound ability to speak on the ills of the world, while keeping his fans entertained.”
