Classical music meets the Towne House

The Silver Birch String Quartet are young, creative musicians who are good at what they do. With their skill and attitude, it would seem they are a fitting group to play the Towne House.

With their skill and attitude, it would seem they are a fitting group to play the Towne House. Yet, the Juno-nominated quartet has never graced the Elgin Street venue with their extensive repertoire - until now, that is.

“We've always prided ourselves on bringing the most interesting music to our stage, and this is something that we have never done before,” said the Towne House's promoter Paul Loewenberg. “With many things that happen at the Towne House, it's just crazy enough to work.”

To ensure the evening is as out of the ordinary as possible, the quartet is joining Hugh Jazz for an evening of unconventional entertainment.

“To ensure that your evening is truly strange, we pit classical against jazz with the astounding dexterous acrobatic fingers of Hugh Jazz, the five-piece Gypsy Jazz swing band that has been driving the city wild through 2012,” Loewenberg said.

“It is so important in building a community that you have artistic projects that challenge audiences to expand their palettes.”

That's why the Towne House and its community not only support festivals and events like Northern Lights Festival Boreal, Sudbury Jazz Festival and Sudbury Symphony, but encourage consumers of art and cultural events to take them in outside the major headlining events.

Cover to see the SBSQ and Hugh Jazz is $10 at the door. Doors open at 9 p.m., and music gets underway around 10.
