Talented music students from two Rainbow District School Board schools will join together for a special Music Monday Community Concert in support of the Joan Mantle Music Trust.

The concert will take place on Monday, May 6 from 6:30-8 p.m. in Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School’s main gymnasium.

“This concert is our way to give back and thank the community for supporting the Joan Mantle Music Trust,” said Pamela Potvin, principal of Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School, in a press release. “We invite everyone to join us for this wonderful musical celebration.”

The concert will feature a variety of performances from R.L. Beattie Public School under the direction of Colette Nadeau, and Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School under the direction of Marc Taillefer. Both schools received trust funds to purchase new instruments in the 2018-2019 school year.

There will also be a special performance by the No Strings Attached Community Band.

Admission is by donation. Suggested donation for adults, youth and children is $5, with children under six years of age free.

Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School is located at 275 Loach’s Road in Sudbury.

The Joan Mantle Music Trust, which was established in the fall of 2008 to help refresh, modernize and revitalize school music programs in Rainbow District School Board, has raised more than $250,000 since its inception.

Mantle dedicated many years to music education in Rainbow schools. She passed away from cancer on June 9, 2009.
