Culture Days opens with town hall meeting

The seventh annual Canada-wide Culture Days weekend will open this year in Sudbury on Friday, Sept. 30 with a town hall meeting to discuss the future of the arts in this city.

The event is being jointly sponsored by the Sudbury Arts Council and the Open Studio of Cambrian College.

It's being held at the Open Studio at 93 Cedar Street, downtown Sudbury (third floor), beginning at 5 p.m.

The event features a presentation by Laurentian University economics professor David Robinson. He will explore a proposal for an Arts Education Centre for the northeast to be located in Greater Sudbury.

Local artists will have the opportunity for to contribute their views on what can be done in the community to allow their talents to flourish through a discussion moderated by Sudbury Living magazine editor Vicki Gilhula.

There will be time to discuss possible arts use and other repurposing of the present Sudbury Arena following the building of a new facility, if the present building is to be retained.

Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend. 

More than 50 Sudbury artists will be involved in Culture Days activities, including visual artists, actors, writers and crafts persons exploring many behind the scenes aspects of the arts.

All Culture Days activities are free and open to the public. The aim is to promote cultural awareness and appreciation of all that makes Greater Sudbury a better place to live because of culture in all its many forms.
