This month's edition of Jokestack takes place May 12, and features comedians Gavin Stephens, Clif Knight and Nick Durie.

“Their comic careers are on the rise across the globe and have proven to be dangerously funny,” said Shawn Bailey, president of Sudbury Performance Group, which puts on the monthly comedy nights.

Stephens is a stand-up comedian and #blerd who skillfully balances playful irony and morbid silliness; he is known for his (really) quick wit and stream of consciousness comedic style.

He has been featured in Montreal’s Just For Laughs and Austin’s SXSW, alongside comedy legends Margaret Cho, Janeane Garofalo, Andy Kindler, Reggie Watts, Hannibal Buress and Marc Maron. He has been named one of the “10 Funniest Canadians” by E!Network and chosen as “Best Local Stand-up Comic” in NOW Magazine’s Readers Choice poll.

Knight is a Guyanese comedian, actor and musician and performs stand-up, sketch and musical comedy with the passion of someone trying desperately to get out of debt. He's been featured on VICE with "Nirvana the Band" improv show and raps in the comedy rap duo "GoodKnight.”

This summer he performs a one man show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival titled "Clif Knight Sucks!" He also has a great recipe for mashed potatoes.

Durie started doing stand-up comedy at the ripe age of 37, in the un-ripe city of Hamilton. Now back where he belongs in Toronto, he regularly performs at Absolute Comedy and The Corner Comedy Club, all the while balancing a professional career almost no one understands.

He recently became an Ambassador for the Canadian Association of Stand-up Comedians. The fact that this bio is still going is meant to mask his lack of credits.

The Jokestack comedy evening starts at 8 p.m. May 12 at The Trevi Bar & Grill on Lasalle Boulevard.

Tickets cost $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Visit www.sudburyperformance.ca for advance tickets.
