A Letter Home – by Yas

I hear my city of Greater Sudbury is heating up with a debate over where an arena or event centre should go.

So I figured I’d share my opinion for whatever you decide it’s worth. With a successful music career, I’ve had the amazing opportunity to travel around the world and perform in just about every style of venue you could possibly think of.

We have performed in arenas downtown and arenas that are outside of the city’s core. I want to make sure this is clear; it doesn’t matter where a venue is located. It only matters how amazing the venue and the entertainment is. Some of the best shows and concerts we ever played were in the middle of a field performing in front of 50,000 screaming fans.

It is always about the event and the people making the event great. I promise if you place an arena downtown without a visionary leader behind it you could end up with a giant eyesore that is empty and kills the growing arts and pedestrian culture that Greater Sudbury is experiencing.

Greater Sudbury, you are experiencing a beautiful renaissance and I’m so proud of you.

The Kingsway project appears to me to be the exact kind of project that could elevate Sudbury to the world stage. I miss my city of Sudbury. I go back as often as I can which isn’t often enough.

The Townhouse, The Laughing Buddhah, Little Montreal, The Trevi, these are all places that are close to my heart and always makes my trips back home feel like I've never left.

I will continue to travel around the world bragging about my hometown.

I hope I get to start talking about the amazing event district built in the city that helped shape me into the person I am. Sudbury you have a chance and an opportunity…Lets continue the legacy of greatness this city has to offer and show the world that Sudbury is a place that continues to grow and inspire.
