Dennis Cropper has been appointed the new executive director of Theatre Cambrian in the wake of the departure last November of the man who previously held the role for many years.

A press release issued Jan. 16 said Cropper — who was recently president of Theatre Cambrian’s board of directors — has “extensive education and experience” in the field.

These are the tools that are much needed to facilitate a new vision and direction that Theatre Cambrian is currently developing, said the press release.

“I’m excited to begin this new journey with Theatre Cambrian,” Cropper said, in the release.

“I believe that Theatre Cambrian has helped develop a strong foundation for the arts in this city. Among an extraordinary team of staff, volunteers and me, our theatre will solidify a new reinvigorated presence in the community.”

Theatre Cambrian announced this past November that its longtime executive director, Mark Mannisto, was no longer with the organization.

Jody Evans, who joined Theatre Cambrian last summer as a maternity leave fill-in in the general manager position, took over temporarily as interim executive director.

When contacted by Sudbury.com to ask about Mannisto last November, Evans confirmed he had departed, but said she didn't have any further information.

A press release said Theatre Cambrian continues its current season with Sister Act, which opens Feb. 9, and Priscilla: Queen of the Desert, which runs in May.
