Documentary chronicles the amazing story of Sudbury's Wasyl Kuryliw, better known as 'Action Bill'

Wasyl (Bill) Kuryliw came to Canada from Ukraine as a teen in 1928

Two screenings of a documentary about the life of Sudburian Wasyl (Bill) Kuryliw are coming up in November.

The documentary, directed by Oksana Kuryliw, is called Chapters and Verses: Action Bill's Walk Through Life

Kuryliw came to Canada from the village of Potochysche in western Ukraine in 1928 at the age of 18 with $5, a Grade 3 education and a powerful zest for life.

He earned the nickname Action Bill for his unflagging energy and dedication to promoting Ukrainian organizations and culture, and his adopted city of Sudbury.

The first screening takes place at the McEwen School of Architecture at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11 as part of the Junction North International Documentary Festival. The second is the next day, at 2 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Ukrainian Seniors' Centre.

Both screenings are free.
