Donovan Days builds community spirit

Nothing brings a community together like literally bringing it together. That's exactly what's happening in the Donovan Aug. 16 to 19, when Donovan Days returns to the west-end community.

Nothing brings a community together like literally bringing it together. That's exactly what's happening in the Donovan Aug. 16 to 19, when Donovan Days returns to the west-end community.

Organizers of the annual festival say families from the area and beyond attend events at Victory Park, as well as the Moose Lodge, throughout the three-day festival. Not only do the have the opportunity to experience the good things happening in their community, they can also reconnect with old friends and fellow Donovan residents.

Initiatives like this make the Sudbury neighbourhood more like home.
“A community can work together to make a difference,” Wanda Vojetsek, co-chair of Donovan Days, said. Through festivals like Donovan Days, Vojetsek said the committee is “making out community a better place, a more fun place.”

A number of free activities, including a corn roast, barbecue, live music, sporting demonstrations, prize raffles, children's games and more will be set up at Victory Playground, and dinners and dances are lined up at the Moose Lodge.

According to Ward 4 Counc. Evelyn Dutrisac, the Day are “an excellent time to meet neighbours and enjoy great family events.”

Four years ago, Donovan Days returned after a 13-year hiatus. Peter Scott, chair of the event, said it was brought back by popular demand.
“It was an event people were talking about,” he said.

Volunteers are still needed to help run the event. Anyone interested in helping out is welcome to contact Vjoetsek at 705-560-8167.
