Don't break the bank this prom, get your dress for free!

Dreams Come True seeking donations of gently used prom dresses

It’s that time of year again ... prom season! Every girl imagines their prom night to be one of the most magical moments of their lives. To be able to have their picture-perfect night they need to find the dress.

Unfortunately not everyone can afford to spend hundreds of dollars on a dress, causing them to turn away from the idea of prom completely.

Darcie Merrill, with the Greater Sudbury Fire Services, believes everyone deserves to have the night of their life whether you have the most expensive dress, or one you got for free.

"Everyone deserves to enjoy that special moment," Merrill said.

Which is why Merrill started the Dreams Come True Prom Dress Event. She is collecting donations of gently used dresses, accessories, and shoes to offer to students.

Donations can be dropped off at Brady Storage, the fire station on Van Horne Street, or Platinum Beauty Lounge until April 25.

"We all have those dresses that just sit in your closet, and it's like, when are you ever going to wear them again?"

More than a hundred dresses have been received so far of various styles, sizes, and colours.

"You can get something girly and princess-y or something sleek and black."

The Dreams Come True Prom Dress Event will be held on April 27 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and April 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Project Dance, 169 Patie Street.

All dresses will be given away at no cost and there will be raffles to give away up-dos, makeup application and gift baskets.
