A launch party for a book, video and limited edition vinyl recording of the August 2012 Between a Rock and a Hard Place concert will be held at The Laughing Buddha starting at 6 p.m. June 7.

Between a Rock and a Hard Place lasted 11 hours, and featured 11 bands playing in unconventional spots around the city, including a rocky hill in the park at the corner of Mary Street and Gauthier Avenue.

The video and vinyl feature performances and interviews with Sudbury bands Silver Birch String Quartet, Justine Giles, Le Paysagiste, Sarah Bradley, Pistol George Warren, Lightmares, Pandora Topp and La Norme, Marcel Aymar, Faye Blais, Strange Attractor and Fevers.

“We’re getting the band back together,” a press release said.

“Let’s gather to celebrate that beautiful Saturday in August when we went out onto the black rocks of Sudbury, forming a caravan of bus riders, cars, and even a few cyclists.

“We travelled through rain and sun, into the forests and up tall hills seeking out Between a Rock and a Hard Place, a project of Dutch artists Bik Van der Pol.

“This series of punk, folk, rock, classical, and electronica concerts by local bands formed a unique map of Sudbury for one day: eleven local bands on eleven swatches of land. The trees we walked through that day have grown taller and stronger, but the piano we brought to the top of the hill still remembers the rain and the music that day.”

Admission to the event is free. For more information, visit musagetes.ca/project/betweenarock.
