As residents in Greater Sudbury continue to practice social distancing Sudbury.com is putting together a weekly list of local virtual events and projects to keep families busy and offer some welcome distraction from the COVID-19 pandemic.

A Taste of Finland at Home

Treat mom or with a special brunch in a box filled with Finnish treats including: kajalanpiirakka (rice pie), lihapiirakka (meat pie), munkkipossut (jelly pig donuts) suolakala, (cured salmon on rye bread), pulla, fresh fruit and a few special additions. Mother’s Day Luncheon

The Ukrainian Seniors’ Centre is offering a curb-side hot luncheon on Mother’s Day. Meals include perogies, cabbage rolls and meat stick for $10. Limited quantity of additional meat sticks will be available for $3 each. Quantities are limited. Place your order before May 3, pick-up on May 9, 705-673-7404.

Sudbury Performance Group virtual concert series
April 22

The two-month concert series will be streamed live every Thursday from The Coulson Nightclub. This week’s event feature The Hits of Elton John on April 22. Performances are free of charge and will be streamed on the Sudbury Performance Group Facebook page from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Sudbury Indie Cinema virtual screenings 
April 16 to 22

Enjoy the Indie from the comfort of your own home. In addition to the following virtual screenings, the Indie has launched Movie Night Take-Out. Every Friday munch on the delicious snacks you buy at the Indie at home. Combos include popcorn, chocolate, alcohol and more. Microsoft Teams workshop
April 21

Ms. Crystal Dupuis, learning consultant at Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon, will share her expertise of the Microsoft Teams platform in order to help parents master this tool. Microsoft Teams is of great importance to students as it enables communication between teacher and student through their computer or iPad. This platform allows teachers to teach their classes virtually. The virtual workshops take place on April 21 at 9:55 a.m. and 3:55 p.m. They are available to CSC Nouvelon families.
