Flag project asks citizens to contribute

Representatives of the citizens' committee that hopes to collect flags from around the world for the Paris St. bridge flag project will have an information booth at  the Canada Day celebration at Sudbury Arena July 1.

Representatives of the citizens' committee that hopes to collect flags from around the world for the Paris St. bridge flag project will have an information booth at  the Canada Day celebration at Sudbury Arena July 1.

The committee hopes to contact citizens and cultural organizations that want their heritage represented in the flags of nations and encourage them to make donations of flags and funds for the project.

The flag project will turn the Paris St. bridge into a landmark unique for Northern Ontario, showcasing Greater Sudbury as a welcoming place for all citizens and visitors.

All donated flags will be raised and replaced on the same day, probably  twice a year.  It is anticipated that the original donation of two flags will cover the first year.

Each group/citizen will be responsible to continue to donate flags in the coming years.

In addition, the committee is requesting an initial, one time donation to pay for the flag poles.

Delegates from the various countries are encouraged to fundraise and/or look for sponsors and supporters or to approach their embassies for grants.
