The Art Gallery of Sudbury is hosting a unique event called Art Blooms April 6.

The exhibition and fundraising sale will feature 13 floral arrangements by local floral designers inspired by works from the Art Gallery of Sudbury’s permanent collection.

Art Blooms is based on an event that originated at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston in 1976. Floral designers study the artwork and then create a fresh floral response or interpretation. The floral pieces are then exhibited next to the art work that inspired the designer, creating a dynamic visual display.

The floral works of art will then be opened to sale to individual and corporate members of the community. The funds raised will directly benefit the art education and community programs ran by the galley.

"The idea of Art Blooms was brought forward to the gallery by Jon Butler, the chair of our Sponsorship, Marketing and Communications Committee," said Demetra Christakos, director-curator of the Art Gallery of Sudbury.

"The timing seemed ideal. We are very excited to see how Sudbury's professional floral designers respond to these works from our important collections."

Fifteen area floral designers including Carole Charbonneau (FlowerTowne), Sophie Prisque (Forever Petals), Christina Case (Lavish Events), Karen Halverson, Gunty Boutot, Travis Chevrier, Pauline Marier (Lougheed’s Flowers), Lindsay Sisko (Near Nature), Kristen Laval (Paris in Bloom), Jennifer Keast (Regency Wine & Flowers), Terry Vendetti (Terry Vendetti Interiors).

Cathy Parker, Jo Anne Parker, Morrigan Parker and Regan Beaudry from Magic Flowers will be submitting a collaborative design.

Sponsors of the event include Azilda Greenhouses and Northern Wildflowers.

Art in Bloom takes place at the gallery April 6 from 5 - 8 p.m.

Tickets cost $10 ($9 for members). Visit the gallery's website for tickets and more information. www.artsudbury.org
