Notre Dame Ave. will have a new look this summer. There will
be extensive landscaping, as well as park benches, a bike rack,
more trash cans, flower baskets and decorative banners placed
along the avenue.
Two part-time "Trash Troopers" dedicated to the commercial
area will help to keep the neighbourhood tidy.
Plans are underway to tranform Notre Dame into a spectacular
"Avenue of Trees" in the European tradition.
The project is supported by the Flour Mill Business
Improvement Association and Ward 6 Councillor Lynne Reynolds.
"What is especially exciting is that it has all been paid
for by the merchants of the Flour Mill, with the city picking
up installation and maintenance activities only," said
Reynolds.
"I was very intent in beautifying this lovely avenue in
order to give the Flour Mill a real sense of place, instead of
being just another thruway."
In addition, Flour Mill residents can also look forward to
an exciting waterpark facility at O'Connor Park designed to
keep kids cool and happy through the summer months.
The Flour Mill Museum will be doing an old-fashioned
landscaping project with sunflowers.
"We want to make a bold statement, build pride, attract families and businesses and continue the celebration of the culture, arts and traditions of this historic neighbourhood," said Reynolds.
