DaBaby will be visiting Sudbury for a show at the Sudbury Arena on May’s long weekend this year as a part of his tour.
It’s the American rapper’s first time making the trek up to Northern Ontario. In fact, he’s only performed in Canada a handful of times.
“It's definitely his first time (in Sudbury) and he's looking forward to it,” said Jeff Sebben, president of Cabin Media Entertainment Group, whose company is presenting the show, told Sudbury.com in a Zoom interview.
“He's played festivals. He's never really been the headliner. So he's really looking forward to this and we're fortunate to bring the show to Sudbury, it's going to be a great time for everybody.”
Jonathan Lyndale Kirk, professionally known as DaBaby, was a two-time nominee at the 2020 Grammys.
His song “Rockstar” that features hip hop artist and singer Roddy Rich also spent seven non-consecutive weeks at number one for Billboard Hot 100.
The opener for DaBaby’s show in Sudbury has yet to be released, but Sebben said that it should be announced in the next few weeks.
“So right now, we've got offers out for a few artists. He's got a few that he's going to be bringing, that's been part of his team and people that he has done collaborations with or people that he's featured in some of his songs. So as of right now, we can't say anything. But over the next few weeks, we will be releasing who's coming,” Sebben said.
Cabin Media has always worked with country and rock genres, but they made it their 2022 goal to bring on more urban artists to “expand their horizons.”
So far, more than half of the tickets have sold for DaBaby’s May 20 show since tickets went on sale earlier this month. If you would like to purchase tickets, please visit the website here.
