Greater Sudbury marches into celebrations for Canada's 152nd birthday

Sudbury Arena hosts food, entertainment and activities for the whole family until 4 p.m. today

Earlier this morning, the Sudbury Multicultural and Folk Arts Association in partnership with the City of Greater Sudbury, kicked off celebrations for the 152nd Canada Day with their annual parade from Tom Davies Square. 

The parade was led by the City of Greater Sudbury Police Services Pipe Band, followed by the Irish Regiment of Sudbury, the City of Greater Sudbury Paramedic Honour Guard, and flag bearer Adele Hunter. 

The march came to a close at the Sudbury Community Arena, where a full day of food, entertainment and activities for the whole family, will be hosted until 4 p.m. today. 

Festivities at the arena began with the signing of O'Canada by the Caruso Club Choir, followed with a special perfomance by the Hope Group First Nation Drummers and words of welcome from local dignitaries. 

Addressing the crowd was MP Paul Lefebvre, MPP France Gelinas, MPP Jamie West, Chief of Police Paul Pedersen, Deputy Chief of Emergency Services Melissa Roney, Dean, President and CEO of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine Dr. Sarita Verma, and Lieutenant Colonel Kenneth McClure representing the Irish Regiment of Sudbury.
