This July 1 isn't just any ordinary Canada Day. It's the 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation, otherwise known by the hard-to-pronounce moniker of sesquicentennial.

If you're looking for a way to show your Canada pride, there's plenty of events to choose from in Greater Sudbury.

The Sudbury Multicultural & Folk Arts Association presents its Canada 150 Celebration at the Sudbury Arena with its annual multicultural food fair.

The event begins with a parade from Memorial Park to the arena at 9:50 a.m. and the arena opens its doors to the public at 10 a.m.

Canada Day cupcakes are distributed at 10:50 a.m., food and craft booths open at 11 a.m., and performances begin at 11:10 a.m. The arena stays open until 4 p.m.

Admission is $1 for adults and free for children under the age of 12.

The other main centre of activities on Canada Day is Science North. Free family entertainment on the main stage kicks off at 12 p.m. with an opening ceremony and the singing of O Canada.

There'll also be hands-on activities, games, crafts and face painting. The day also includes plenty of tasty Canada Day snacks to choose from, and much more.

In honour of the Canada Day celebrations, buy one regular priced admission to Science North's IMAX Theatre and get the second admission of equal or lesser value for half price.

Top off the evening with a spectacular fireworks display by David Whysall International Fireworks at approximately 10:15 p.m.

For full details, visit Science North's Facebook page.

There's also smaller Canada Day activities going on throughout the city.

An example is Royal Canadian Legion Branch 76, which holds a celebration starting at noon, including a barbecue, dance, face painting and games. Admission is by a silver collection.

If you have an athletic bent, here's a Canada Day activity you might be interested in.

The Laurentian University Varsity Cross-Country Running and Track Team is holding its annual Walden Firecracker Road Race during the evening of July 1.

The race takes place at the TM Davies Community Centre starting at 6:15 p.m. for the 1 km kids' fun run and at 7 p.m. for the 5 km run-walk.
