Check out the work of plein air artists Christy A. Smith and Lydia Gaudreau at Artists on Elgin during the month of March in the exhibit Plein Air Painting in Killarney Park.

For many years, Smith has been involved in the Friends of Killarney Park Artist in Residence Program.

The Artist in Residence program was started in 2010 as an initiative to connect visitors to nature through art by providing professional instruction.

Since then, they have on average four weeks of programming through the summer months and have had 12 Artists in Residence. Every year roughly 400 people partake in the program.

In 2017, Gaudreau, an emerging artist, was trained by Smith via the Artist in Residence Program.

“Together, they will be showcasing their individuality in plein air painting connecting art and nature together as one,” said a press release.

“Artists on Elgin encourages and welcomes the public to an opening reception that will demonstrate the beauty and raw stillness of Killarney Park through the way Christy captures each moment in paint with her pieces.”

The opening reception takes place Saturday, March 3 from 1-4 p.m.

Artists on Elgin is located at 168 Elgin St., and is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
