Jimmy Buffett's favourite Canadian songwriter is coming to Sudbury.

East Coast recording artist Lennie Gallant will perform the final concert in the Dairy Queen Out of the Cold concert series on Nov. 18. Proceeds from the event support the hot meal program offered by St. Andrew's Place, which serves thousands of meals to those in need every week during the winter months.

Gallant is honoured to close out this high-powered concert series, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Originally from PEI, but now living in Nova Scotia, Gallant will fly from Halifax to Sudbury for this “one-off” Ontario show. He will be accompanied by his keyboard player.

Gallant has released nine albums (seven in English; two in French). The album “When We Get There” soared the highest, as it accompanied the space shuttle Endeavour on a July 2009 voyage. Canadian astronaut Julie Payette had asked for the CD for the crew.

Gallant has received many awards over the years, including Junos and East Coast Music Awards, and has been nominated for others, such as the ECMAs for Francophone Album Of The Year in 2003 and 2010. Gallant was made a member of the Order Of Canada out of recognition for his musical contributions to our country.

According to The Times Globe, “An opportunity to see Gallant live should not be missed,” while The Halifax Herald advised, “Gallant delivers a Powerhouse of a show”.

Even the pirate himself, Jimmy Buffet, offered praise. “Lennie Gallant t is one of my favourite Canadian songwriters,” Buffett has said.

He even recorded Gallant’s song Mademoiselle Voulez-Vous Danser, which was featured in the movie Mystic River. Audiences might hear this tune at the Sudbury concert.

Tickets are value priced at $20 for this charitable concert. The venue is St. Andrew’s Place, 111 Larch Street.

The show will start at 7 p.m. Purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended as this show will sell out.

Call Bob at 705-523-6200 to reserve tickets for pick up and payment at the door on the concert date.
