Local author holding book signing at Chapters on Saturday

Jo Storm's "Snowhook" is set in Northern Ontario

Local author Jo Storm’s book Snowhook, a young adult novel set in Northern Ontario, was published by Dundurn Press this week and is now available in stores.

Snowhook tells the story of Hannah, a 14-year-old girl who sets out with her four family dogs and an ancient dog sled to find help for her gravely ill mother. What starts out as a half-day adventure turns into a perilous trek across the frozen landscape of Northern Ontario with unexpected weather and an even more unexpected passenger.

Storm, who grew up in Muskoka, has made Sudbury her home for the last 10 years. The novel is based on her experience as a five-dog owner, a dog trainer and a hobbyist sledder.

“I started Snowhook because in the darkest days of winter, my days revolved around dogs and snow, snow and dogs,” said Storm. “It was also important to me to add to the reading choices available to teenagers: we need more stories about girls having adventures.”

Snowhook is available from Chapters, Amazon, Dundurn Press, and at local bookstores. For more information on Snowhook, visit www.dundurn.com/books/Snowhook

Storm will be at Chapters in Sudbury on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m to sign copies of her book and to talk all things dog.
