Valentine's Day may be gone, but love is still in the air.

A performance of A.R. Guerney's “Love Letters” starring local CBC Radio host Markus Schwabe and retired drama teacher Judi Straughan, and with music by local musician Jeff Wiseman, runs at Sudbury Theatre Centre Feb. 24.

The play, which was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, centers on two characters, Melissa Gardner and Andrew Makepeace Ladd III.

The characters sit side by side at tables and read the notes, letters and cards – in which over nearly 50 years, they discuss their hopes and ambitions, dreams and disappointments, victories and defeats – that have passed between them throughout their separated lives.

“Will Andy and Melissa to be together for the rest of their lives?” said a press release.

“The seeds of love planted at a Grade 2 birthday party blossom. As they navigate their teens, university and careers, their love is tested. A.R. Gurney's award-winning play, Love Letters, is filled with laughter and pain as Andy and Melissa take us on a journey we will never forget.”

You can check out “Love Letters” at Sudbury Theatre Centre at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24. Tickets cost $30 each. Visit sudburytheatre.com or phone 705-674-8381.
