Mural honouring Oryst Sawchuk unveiled in downtown Sudbury

The late artist's work inspires mural along pedestrian underpass connecting Elgin Street and Riverside Drive

The latest addition to Greater Sudbury's artistic landscape was unveiled in the pedestrian underpass connecting Elgin Street and Riverside Drive on Saturday, in a special ribbon-cutting ceremony by the Sudbury Arts Council.

The mural was completed in honour of Sudbury artist and architect Oryst Sawchuk and includes recreations of 11 of his paintings of Downtown Sudbury.

The project was commissioned by the City of Greater Sudbury and completed by Monique Legault of the newly opened Monique Legault Studio at 172 Elgin St., along with her assistant Lauren Carlson and fellow artist Dineen Worth.
