Nightmare on Brookside Street: Chelmsford house transformed into haunted house

Family once again collecting canned food donations for local food bank through haunted house

For the majority of the year, Tom and Christine Byrnes' home on Brookside Street in Chelmsford resembles any other quiet bungalow on the block. But once October arrives, strange goings-on start to happen.

Wooden pallets and spooky decor begin taking over the yard and garage, spilling out onto the driveway.

By Halloween, the entire neighbourhood is lining up for a chance to enter Nightmare on Brookside Street.

Nightmare on Brookside is a free haunt created by the Byrnes' and countless volunteers.

"(It's) all in good scary fun," Christine said. "We go bigger and better every year."

In lieu of an entry fee, visitors are encouraged to bring canned food items which will be donated to the food bank that serves Chelmsford, Azilda and Dowling areas.

"Last year we saw over 900 people in two nights and collected over 700 items that were picked up by the Chelmsford food bank," she said.

You can experience the Nightmare on Brookside Street at 180 Brookside St. in Chelmsford on the following dates:
